Baptism

Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission. (CCC1213)

Infant Baptism

Congratulations! Baptism is a beginning of the child’s faith life. As the child grows and matures, parents are the first and most important teachers of the faith, as you lead your child into a deeper relationship with Christ by your words and your example. As a parish, we are blessed and privileged to help you in this endeavor.

  • Parents must be registered as parishioners, either at St. Max or at another Catholic parish.

    • If you are not a registered parishioner, and would like to register at St. Max, you can do so here.

    • If you are registered at another parish, please provide a letter from your pastor acknowledging this Baptism is taking place here at St. Max

Parents preparing for the Baptism of their first child are required to participate in one baptismal preparation session. Godparents are also encouraged to join the parents. Once you complete and return the Baptism registration form, we will help you register for an upcoming session.

  • If you have already had a child baptized here at St. Max, and have previously attended the preparation session here, you do not need to attend another preparation session. If you have completed baptismal preparation at another parish, please provide a certificate of completion or a letter from the pastor verifying your attendance.

  • Like parents, godparents are called to be witness of our faith to the child that is to be baptized. This implies that a godparent is striving to live the faith and to follow the teachings of Christ’s Church. Here is a helpful guide for parents as you choose godparents for your child. A godparent form must be filled out by the potential godparent, signed by their pastor, and returned to the parish office. The godparent form can be found here.

Adult baptism

Youth and Adult Baptism

In Baptism, we become adopted children of God, are made part of Christ’s Body the Church, and are freed from sin.  This first sacrament of Christian initiation opens the door to the other sacraments.  Jesus opens the door to the kingdom of God to all who are baptized in water and the Holy Spirit.
