Adolescents in 8th – 12th grade normally begin preparation approximately 3 months in advance. A parent is required to attend a Sacramental Preparation Orientation Meeting (scheduled in early spring or late fall).
Step 1: Parent Orientation Meeting
Join our Sacramental Preparation staff for one of these required meetings. You’ll get an overview of the sacramental preparation process at St. Max, learn how to get signed up for formation programs next year, and have an opportunity to ask questions of our ministry staff.
Saturday, May 5, 9:30 - 11:00 AM
Tuesday, May 8, 7:00 - 8:30 PM
Friday, May 11, 9:30 - 11:00 AM
Register for an Orientation Meeting
Step 2: Pre-Registration
Once you have completed the orientation meeting, you will be invited to pre-register for the sacramental preparation program.
Step 3: Catechetical Formation
All who have pre-registered are invited to participate in the catechetical formation, comprised of an opening event, sessions for candidates and sponsors, a retreat, and work at home on a portfolio.
Step 4: Interview with the Pastor
After catechesis, candidates interview with the pastor, to review their portfolio and talk about the family’s journey of faith. Interviews are scheduled using an online tool, and must be completed before celebration can take place.
Step 5: Celebration
Candidates celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Step 6: Mystagogy
Having celebrated God’s love for us in the sacrament, the period of mystagogy (“exploring the mysteries”) begins. The newly-confirmed participate in a mystagogy kickoff event, to reflect on their experience in the sacrament, and to talk about what this sacrament means for their continuing faith life.
